Pickleball combines many elements of tennis, badminton, racquetball, and ping-pong. The game is played on a badminton-size court using paddles and a ball similar to a whiffle ball.
Sportable is looking for upto eight athletes with low vision who would like to try pickleball and help us explore how the sport might be adapted for players with visual impairments.
During this two-session pilot clinic, athletes and coaches will experiment with different types and colors of pickleballs, audible signaling, and multiple-bounce allowances. Participants will learn basic pickleball skills and rules while helping us determine which adaptations are most helpful.
This is a new experience for Sportable, and we do not yet have all the answers. We are looking for athletes who are excited to try pickleball, provide feedback, and figure things out with us. The gym will be reserved exclusively for the clinic, providing a quiet environment for testing audible signals and other adaptations.
Because we are in the early stages of exploring adaptations, this pilot will be most suitable for athletes who have some usable vision. No previous pickleball experience is required. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend both sessions.
