Sportable Launches New Wellness Initiatives

RICHMOND, VA – (Thursday, April 7, 2022) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier accessible sports club, is proud to launch the new Sportable WINS program, promoting health and wellness initiatives for individuals with disabilities. Supported in part by a grant from the Commonwealth Neurotrauma Initiative Trust Fund, Sportable WINS includes a variety of resources, events, webinars, and training programs to support individualized wellness plans. The goal of this new initiative is to build on the benefits Sportable athletes already receive through physical activity by providing education and resources on social connectedness, resilience, exercise, nutrition, sleep and mindfulness.

Headlining the Sportable WINS program is M.E.N.T.O.R., a free eight-week virtual wellness program designed for adults who have mobility limitations in partnership with the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD). Participants will receive interactive instruction on mindfulness, nutrition, exercise, and other wellness topics led by trained professionals and health coaches. Other WIN initiatives include Sportable Squad pop-up fitness classes and a free monthly Wellness Webinar series, which kicks off with Nutrition for Athletes, led by Emily Moore, Registered Dietitian, on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.

“As we support our athletes to strive for the best possible outcomes, we are delighted to partner with NCHPAD to give the people we serve access to best-in class wellness education and coaching all from the comfort of their home,” said Hunter Leemon, Sportable Executive Director. “We understand not everyone is able to commit to an 8-week course, so we are offering several other ways athletes can focus on wellness in meaningful ways. Our entire WINS program was designed to reduce barriers to participation – at no cost to them, athletes can choose how and when they want to participate whether it’s in-person, virtually, once a month, or more frequently. We believe this holistic, dimensional approach will greatly enhance the overall health and wellness of the athletes we serve.”
