VAMAC Returns as Presenting Sponsor for 2025 River City Slam Wheelchair Tennis Tournament

RICHMOND, VA – (Friday, May 16, 2025) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to announce that VAMAC will return as the presenting sponsor of the 2025 River City Slam Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, taking place June 5-8, 2025 at the Collegiate School’s Williams-Bollettieri Tennis Center on the Robins Campus in Richmond.

The River City Slam, a USTA Level 1 event and part of the ITF Futures Series, will once again draw elite wheelchair tennis athletes internationally and from across the country. Sanctioned by both the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF), this tournament is one of just a few in the nation to hold dual recognition, offering top-level competition in both national and international circuits.

“We’re honored to partner with VAMAC again for one of the most prestigious wheelchair tennis tournaments in the country,” said Hunter Leemon, Chief Executive Officer of Sportable. “As a long-standing, family-owned company with deep roots in the community, VAMAC exemplifies the values of inclusion, support, and excellence that define the River City Slam. Their continued partnership empowers athletes of all levels to showcase their skills and experience the thrill of high-level competition right here in Richmond.”

Now in its fifth year, the River City Slam has quickly become a national destination for adaptive athletes of all levels of experience – from season pros to first-time players. The 2025 event will welcome competitors in USTA divisions A, B, C, D, Quad Open, and Juniors, as well as ITF divisions Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Quad Open, Junior Boys, and Junior Girls. Nearly $7,000 in scholarships were awarded to participating athletes with $5,000 in prize money slated for tournament winners. In its first four years, the Slam has hosted over 100 athletes from more than 25 states, spanning coast to coast.

Registration is available now at Sportable.org.

About Wheelchair Tennis
One of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the world, wheelchair tennis is played on a standard tennis court in the same way as able-bodied tennis, with the only exception being that a wheelchair tennis player is allowed two bounces of the ball. The athlete’s wheelchair is considered to be a part of the body, so rules applying to the player’s body apply to the chair as well. Wheelchair tennis has been part of the Paralympic Games since 1992 and has been played at all four Grand Slams since 2007.
