RICHMOND, VA – (Wednesday, June 21, 2023) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to partner with MEDRVA Healthcare to provide individuals with visual impairments cost-free access to adaptive sports programs.
“We are thrilled to partner with MEDRVA Healthcare to provide cost-free Sportable memberships for individuals with visual impairments,” commented Hunter Leemon Sportable Chief Executive Officer. “MEDRVA Healthcare’s mission to restore and enrich lives aligns perfectly with our pursuit to make sports and recreational opportunities accessible and inclusive. We are proud to extend this benefit to our existing Sportable members while expanding our reach to new athletes in the community.”
“It is with great enthusiasm that MEDRVA Healthcare partners with Sportable in their mission to make adaptive sports more accessible to individuals with visual impairments,” said Ty Bozkurt, MEDRVA Healthcare Chief Executive Officer. “By providing cost-free memberships to athletes with visual impairment, MEDRVA Healthcare looks forward to enriching the lives of RVA community members through access to sport.”
“As a Richmond native, I am thrilled about the impact this partnership between Sportable and MEDRVA Healthcare will have in the local community,” added Kevin Jackson, MEDRVA Foundation Director of Development and Fundraising. “Providing access to sport for those with visual impairments will improve the lives of all participants. I look forward to seeing this partnership flourish.”
Some of Sportable’s most popular programs include recreational cycling, swimming, archery, boccia, road racing, kayaking, rowing, and rock climbing, which can be adapted for individuals with visual impairments. Meanwhile, goalball is a Paralympic sport designed exclusively for athletes with visual impairments. Players compete in teams of three while wearing opaque eyeshades and using ear-hand coordination to throw a ball embedded with bells past their opponents and into their net to score points.
