Sportable Hosts River City Classic March 4-5

RICHMOND, VA – (Thursday, January 5, 2023) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to announce the return of the River City Classic March 4-5, 2023. Hosted by the Sportable Rim Riders, the adult wheelchair basketball tournament will feature a dozen Division II and Division III teams from across the east coast at RockIt Sports in Richmond, VA.

“The Rim Riders have a storied 40-year history in Richmond and we are proud to showcase their talents by hosting a top-class tournament in Henrico County this spring,” commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable Executive Director. “The River City Classic is shaping up to be a phenomenal event with a dozen wheelchair basketball teams from across the East Coast expected to appear. I strongly encourage everyone to save the date for this action-packed weekend.”

Founded in 1981, the Rim Riders wheelchair basketball team has been a mainstay in Richmond for more than 40 years. The team merged with Sportable in 2017 and is a Division II member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA). The Rim Riders are currently ranked 16th in the country, with the top 16 teams qualifying for the national tournament this spring.

The River City Classic will tip off on Saturday, March 4 with action beginning at 8:30 AM and continuing on three courts throughout the day. The tournament will conclude with Championship Games on Sunday, March 5. All games will take place at RockIt Sports and are free for the public to attend.
