Sportable CEO Hunter Leemon Set To Ride for Sportable
RICHMOND, VA – (Thursday, September 19, 2024) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to announce its Chief Executive Officer, Hunter Leemon, is teaming up with Board Member and retired CapTech Executive, Kevin McQueen, to cycle 333 miles from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, D.C. October 2-6, 2024. Leemon and McQueen will raise funds and awareness for Sportable and the Fanconi Cancer Foundation, respectively.
Leemon’s fundraising ride is his second in as many years as he participated in RAGBRAI in 2023, cycling 500 miles across Iowa for Sportable. It was in Iowa that Leemon first met McQueen, who shares his passion for transforming the lives of individuals with physical disabilities. McQueen’s son, Sean, a Sportable member, has a rare genetic disorder called Fanconi anemia.
“Riding RAGBRAI last year was a life-changing experience,” commented Leemon. “I was inspired to make a fitness-based fundraiser an annual tradition as both a personal challenge and as a way to raise critical funds for Sportable. By teaming up with Kevin this year, we also look forward to supporting the Fanconi Cancer Foundation and helping to make groundbreaking research possible. It should be a great time, and beneficial to two wonderful organizations.”
“Raising funds for the Fanconi Cancer Foundation has always been important to me and my family, and every year we do something that raises awareness and funds for the organization,” said McQueen, and former board member for the organization. “Having the opportunity to team with Hunter and Sportable made perfect sense because both organizations do so much to provide support where it’s needed. I can’t wait to hit the road!”
A group of 15 riders, led by Leemon and McQueen, will embark from Pittsburgh, PA on October 2. Over the course of five days, the group will travel along the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal Towpath before concluding at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. on October 6.
To support the ride, donations can be made to Sportable, at Sportable.org/Donate or the Fanconi Cancer Foundation at Fanconi.org.
