Sportable Announces Tailgate Matching Challenge

RICHMOND, VA – (Wednesday, September 8, 2021) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to announce a matching challenge to celebrate the 10th Anniversary Sportable Tailgate presented by Dominion Energy. Should Sportable raise $30,000 prior to October 3, 2021, generous donors will contribute a dollar-for-dollar match, given with each threshold of $10,000 achieved, to support the organization’s mission to make sports accessible and inclusive in RVA. “We are incredibly grateful to our donors who have stepped up to pledge the largest matching gift in Sportable history for this year’s 10th Anniversary Sportable Tailgate,” commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable Executive Director. “This year is truly special as it marks a decade of Sportable Tailgates and we are eager to celebrate with Tailgate Hosts across the region over the next several weeks. Hosting your Tailgate is one of the best ways to support our mission to create top-quality, inclusive sports programs and through this matching challenge, now your impact will be doubled.”

Sportable’s signature fundraising event, the 10th Anniversary Sportable Tailgate presented by Dominion Energy, will unite the community with a goal to raise critical funds and awareness of adaptive sports. This year’s event will pay homage to the inaugural Tailgate, hosted in 2012, with a series of celebrations from September 17 through October 3.

Originally hosted at the home of longtime Sportable supporters, Amy and Rafe Wilkinson, the Sportable Tailgate was established in 2012 as the organization’s first-ever fundraising event. From there, the Tailgate grew into an annual celebration where hundreds of athletes, volunteers, and supporters came together to celebrate athletes’ accomplishments.

To commemorate the Tailgate’s 10th Anniversary in 2021, Sportable will replicate the theme from 2012 by encouraging supporters to engage individual networks to host personalized tailgate parties throughout RVA. The fundraiser will span three weekends with incentives and prizes awarded to top fundraisers. A limited edition 10th Anniversary Tailgate t-shirt and Sportable’s iconic neon orange solo cups are on sale now at

Sportable revenues are 97 percent philanthropic and funded almost entirely through donations and grants. Gifts of any amount will provide critical unrestricted support and will directly impact the lives of hundreds of individuals living with a physical disability or visual impairment.
