Through all types football activities, we teach not only the fundamentals of the game but also valuable life skills like teamwork, discipline, and leadership. Monarchs Move at Old Dominion University

What they offer: The Mighty Monarchs Wheelchair Sports Program is a community-based adapted sports program for youth with physical disabilities. Held on the campus of ODU, this program offers the opportunity for youth with physical disabilities to participate in adapted sports (e.g., wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair volleyball) monthly, throughout the school year. The mission of Mighty Monarchs Adapted Sports Program at ODU is to empower youth with physical disabilities to be physically active members of their schools and communities.

What they offer: Individuals who have experienced traumatic or catastrophic life events must learn positive ways to adapt and overcome those challenges. TA direct service--outcome based adaptive instruction benefits individuals, families, and organizations.  Our unique approach teaching, coaching, guiding, and mentoring makes it possible for you To Restore ~ To Rebuild ~ To Re-Create yourself.  TA adaptive sports and adaptive outdoor adventures provide greater accessibility while emboldening those we serve with the courage to improve their functional independence, fitness and overall quality of life.

Who they serve: Persons of ALL ages and abilities. Those who live with physical and developmental disabilities, chronic and terminal illnesses, as well as other complex medical conditions.

Where programs occur: Central Virginia and beyond: on the snow; on the water, and where adaptive sports and adventures are best experienced.

Cost: ALL of our specialty adaptive sports programs, camps, and therapeutic retreats are provided at NO cost to our adaptive guests—children, teens, adults, veterans.

What they offer: Established in 1979, the Sun Wheelers organization provides support for physically challenged athletes residing in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. Our goal is to provide support and guidance to wheelchair athletes in all sports at the local, state, national, and international levels. Our focus is to assist in developing self-esteem, experience competitive sports, raise public awareness of people with disabilities, and offer an environment of health and fitness to our community.

What they offer: Warrior For Life Fund is a charity in Virginia Beach offering sled hockey and other programs to the community.

Who they serve: Sled hockey program is open to all regardless of military affiliation, most other programs are focused on Naval Special Warfare community.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society

What they offer: Beyond Boundaries is a non-profit based in Richmond, Virginia specializing in guiding participants with disabilities, veterans, underserved youth, and recovery programs on outdoor adventures. We also serve some groups in Roanoke, VA. We do anything outside, including fishing, hiking, biking, pontooning, rafting, climbing, and kayaking!

Who they serve: Currently, we operate by partnering with existing groups, like Autism Society of Central Virginia, Virginia Down Syndrome Association, or Jacob's Chance, to take people on outdoor adventures! At this time, we don't take registration for programming directly as we operate on a partnership model.

Where programs occur: Parks and water all around Richmond and Roanoke!

What they offer: Jacob's Chance provides social and recreational programs for individuals ages 5-40 with intellectual, developmental, physical, and/or complex disabilities. Participants pay per program, and each program is offered at minimal cost. Financial assistance is provided upon registration, as needed.

What they offer: The Kelly Brush Foundation (KBF) is dedicated to making active lifestyles a reality for those who have experienced a spinal cord injury. What they offer:The Center for Creative Healing is a group therapy practice offering music therapy, art therapy, play therapy, and counseling to clients of all ages. We provide trauma-informed, creative therapeutic experiences that promote wellness, support behavior change, and improve quality of life. Our safe, affirming spaces in North Chesterfield, Richmond, and community-based settings serve individuals and families across central Virginia. We are proud recipients of a Commonwealth Neurotrauma Initiative grant, expanding our services to support individuals impacted by traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Who they serve:All ages with any diagnosis; however to qualify for free services through the grant, someone must be a survivor of a concussion, TBI or SCI.

Where programs occur:Offices located in North Chesterfield, Richmond and in the community through collaborations with partnering organizations.

Cost:Insurance (commercial and medicaid) cover services for mental health purposes; CSA funding; grant funding covers services for free for those with TBI.

What they offer: From twinkle to wrinkle, we have something for everyone at the Virginia Down Syndrome Association. We support parents who welcome a baby with DS, provide enrichment and social programs for all ages, offer educational tools and information to support parents in raising a child with DS, provide education and employment programs for our members with DS, and encourage and support our members in making an impact on our community.
