Adaptive Programs Coordinator

Overview: Sportable Richmond Adaptive Sports and Recreation is an adaptive sports, recreation, and wellness organization that aspires to be the best in the country at providing sporting and recreational opportunities to those with physical disabilities and visual impairments.
Job Description: The Adaptive Programs Coordinator drives the planning and execution of comprehensive sports and recreation programs specifically designed for individuals with physical and visual disabilities. This role directly oversees assigned programs, ensuring their successful delivery from inception to completion. This includes everything from scheduling and logistics to direct program implementation through athlete assessments, equipment modification, adaptive techniques, and instruction.
Reports To: Director of Adaptive Programs
Category Type: This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. Some night and weekend work is required.
Responsibilities:
- Program Design & Planning
- Leads the design and development of assigned adaptive sports programs, providing strategic direction for daily operations and future initiatives. Programs may include, but are not limited to: archery, basketball, boccia, cycling, goalball, kayaking, lacrosse, pickleball, CP soccer, power soccer, road racing, rock climbing, rowing, rugby, swimming, and/or tennis.
- Develops and manages program budgets in collaboration with coaches and partnering community entities, securing final approval from the Director of Adaptive Programs.
- Creates and maintains comprehensive program schedules for all assigned activities.
Program Operations & Logistics- Manages all logistical aspects for assigned programs, including athlete registrations, facility booking and management.
- Oversees all aspects of equipment management for assigned programs, including purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and specific adjustments for individual athletes.
- Develops and refines practice plans to optimize program delivery and athlete development.
- Supports and contributes to special events focused on adaptive sports programming throughout the year.
Athlete & Staff Management- Recruits, supervises, and mentors coaches and volunteers for assigned programs, ensuring they are well-trained and supported.
- Conducts athlete assessments to determine needs and track progress within assigned programs.
- Develops and maintains accurate athlete rosters for each program, tracking attendance weekly.
- Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with community and national partners to enhance and expand high-quality, impactful Sportable programming.
Communication & Reporting- Manages all communications to athletes, coaches, volunteers, and other stakeholders involved in assigned programs.
- Collects and analyzes program data, preparing comprehensive reports for grants and to inform other program decisions.
- Actively participates in staff meetings with the Sportable program team and, as needed, with coaches and program volunteers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Qualifications, and Skills:- Passionate about Sportable’s mission
- Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Park & Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field preferred
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist® (CTRS) or related experience preferred
- 2+ years of experience in working with individuals with disability preferred
- Experience with CRMs/databases, Salesforce preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently
- Proficient in collaborating effectively with team members and experience with coordinating staff, volunteers, and various stakeholders
- Comfortable working on multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently
- Strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism
- Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
- Ability to work remotely and travel to related adaptive sport events, tournaments, and competitions.
- Evening and weekend work required
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: starting at $45,000-$54,000, commensurate with experience
