“One of the biggest barriers athletes with disabilities face is the inaccessibility they often experience when traveling across the country,” commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable Chief Executive Officer. “With more than 1,000 athletes traveling into Richmond, we are incredibly grateful for the support of Allianz Partners for helping us proactively make these wheelchair basketball athletes’ travels as easy and accessible as possible. Additionally, Richmond International Airport has committed to providing white glove service for Nationals-bound wheelchair basketball athletes. Staff from the airport and airlines are working tirelessly to plan and execute efficient systems to handle sports equipment and security on both in-bound and outbound flights. Amazon will be on site to load and deliver sports wheelchairs to and from the Henrico Sports and Events Center.

“Richmond International Airport (RIC) looks forward to welcoming teams and supporters arriving for the Wheelchair Basketball National Championships to be played at the new Henrico Sports and Events Center in April,” said Perry J. Additionally, supported by Richmond Region Tourism, I am proud to share that in recent weeks more than 93 percent of Commission staff completed a disability inclusion and awareness training program to be even better hosts.”
