After joining Sportable in 2017 I have participated in the adaptive sports of rowing, archery, kayaking, and cycling. My most recent sport and my favorite thus far is wheelchair rugby. I was exceptionally unfamiliar with the sport and came in with zero expectations, but I am so glad I took the chance and got involved. I’ve had a lot of fun learning the high contact, fast paced aspects of the sport while also learning important technical strategies. Not only has playing wheelchair rugby increased my physical strength and endurance, it has allowed me to form friendships with my teammates and support staff. Spending time at practice with each other every week and building camaraderie keeps me motivated as to not let them down. I feel so grateful to have an organization like Sportable in Richmond and appreciative for the opportunity it has created for me to be physically active in sports again since my spinal cord injury. I am also thankful to be a part of the Sportable Possums wheelchair rugby team in its beginning and look forward to seeing it grow in the future.
