Sportable Coach Hannah Smith Named Finalist for The NASCAR Foundation’s 2025 Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award

RICHMOND, VA. September 29, 2025 — Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to announce that athlete, volunteer, and coach Hannah Smith has been named one of four national finalists for the 15th annual Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award, presented by The NASCAR Foundation.

The award honors NASCAR fans who volunteer for children’s causes in their communities. Each finalist will receive a $25,000 donation for their organization, with the overall winner receiving a $100,000 donation from The NASCAR Foundation.

Smith was born with Spina Bifida and was introduced to adaptive sports at the age of 11 through Sportable. Since joining Sportable over a decade ago, Smith has become a competitive wheelchair basketball player and advocate for promoting adaptive sports globally. She developed and launched Sportable’s youth wheelchair basketball camp and women’s wheelchair basketball clinic.

“Hannah embodies the very best of Sportable,” said Hunter Leemon, CEO of Sportable. “Her story comes full circle — from athlete to coach to mentor to advocate for inclusion. Her passion, commitment, and selflessness inspire everyone around her, and we are incredibly proud to see her recognized on this national stage.”

The overall winner of the award will be determined through an online fan vote, open now through Nov. 3 at NASCARfoundation.org/Award. Voters may cast one ballot per day. The winner will be announced during the NASCAR Awards in Phoenix on Nov. 4.

B-roll of Smith is available here.
