Sportable Names Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospitals as Presenting Sponsors of the 11th Annual Wayne Samford Memorial Golf Tournament

RICHMOND, VA – August 20, 2025 – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is thrilled to announce Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospitals of Richmond, Petersburg, and Charlottesville as the presenting sponsors of the 11th Annual Wayne Samford Memorial Golf Tournament, set for Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at Independence Golf Club. All proceeds from this event benefit Sportable’s mission to make sports accessible and inclusive for individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments.

“We are honored to welcome Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospitals of Richmond, Petersburg, and Charlottesville as this year’s presenting sponsors of the golf tournament. Their work in restoring strength, mobility, and confidence for people after illness or injury is closely aligned with Sportable’s mission,” said Hunter Leemon, Sportable Chief Executive Officer. “Together we are expanding opportunities for individuals to reach their personal goals and discover what’s possible—both on and off the playing field.”

“Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospitals of Richmond and Petersburg, as well as our joint venture hospital with UVA in Charlottesville, are proud to support Sportable athletes and the Greater Richmond community through the Wayne Samford Memorial Golf Tournament,” said Vivian White, Encompass Health Richmond-Area Chief Executive Officer. “Partnering with Sportable allows us to extend our commitment to health and independence beyond the walls of our hospitals, supporting athletes as they build skills, compete, and thrive.

This year’s tournament continues the legacy of honoring the late Wayne Samford—a distinguished 30-year basketball official and beloved local referee—whose life and contributions remain a core driving force for the event.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at noon at Independence Golf Club, one of the top courses in Richmond, as recognized by Golf Digest. For more information, including sponsorship opportunities, please visit Sportable.org or contact Forrest Lodge at forrest@sportable.org.
