Sportable Hosts Golf Tournament October 7 at Independence Golf Club

RICHMOND, VA – (Tuesday, August 6, 2024) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to host the 10th Annual Wayne Samford Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Virginia. Proceeds will directly benefit Sportable’s mission to make sports, recreation, and wellness opportunities accessible and inclusive throughout the greater Richmond area. “My father, Wayne Samford, had a passion for sports and was involved with many community partners that provided programs for individuals with disabilities,” added Jeff Samford, son of the tournament’s namesake, Wayne Samford. “Sportable’s commitment to creating opportunities for accessibility and inclusiveness in Richmond aligns with the mission of the tournament and we are proud to partner with such a great organization to keep Dad’s legacy alive.”

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. at Independence Golf Club, one of the top courses in Richmond as recognized by Golf Digest.

About Wayne Samford
Wayne Samford graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1964 and attended Virginia Commonwealth University. His passion for athletics included 30 years of Divisions I and III college basketball officiating as well as refereeing at the high school level. As an avid softball player for 50 years, he played at the highest level, and was inducted into the Central Virginia ASA Hall of Fame in 1994. He served as the Director of the Central Virginia Softball Special Olympics for nearly three decades. Wayne enjoyed playing golf and sharing his love of sports by coaching little league baseball for over 20 years and was a devoted member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Short Pump. Following his passing in 2014, Wayne’s legacy was honored with the establishment of the Wayne Samford Memorial Golf Tournament.
