Paralympian Trevon Jenifer Slated to Coach Sportable’s Wheelchair Basketball Camp August 3-4
RICHMOND, VA – (Wednesday, July 31, 2024) – Sportable, Central Virginia’s premier adaptive sports club, is proud to welcome two-time Paralympic Gold Medalist Trevon “Trey” Jenifer as a guest coach at the Sportable Wheelchair Basketball Camp this weekend, August 3-4, 2024. Designed for junior athletes ages 5 through high school with permanent lower limb impairments, the camp will take place at the Brock Sports & Recreation Center on the campus of Randolph Macon College. Registration is available now at Sportable.org.
“To host a Paralympian of Trey’s caliber in Richmond just a few weeks before he competes with Team USA in Paris is a tremendous opportunity,” commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable Chief Executive Officer. “Not only does Trey bring incredible experience playing wheelchair basketball at the highest level, he is also a dynamic coach, leader, and an outstanding role model for our youngest athletes. We are thrilled to have him share his talents with our community this weekend.”
Sportable will welcome Jenifer to Richmond two weeks before he departs for Paris to represent Team USA in the 2024 Paralympics. He will join Sportable coaches and staff for the two-day preseason camp that will include more than 30 youth wheelchair basketball players traveling from six states. The curriculum will focus on individual skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship to prepare for the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) season beginning this fall.
One of the top wheelchair basketball players in the country, a motivational speaker, author, and father, Jenifer was born without legs due to a rare disease called Congenital Phocomelia. He began playing wheelchair basketball at age four in the Washington, D.C. area, later becoming a successful track athlete and accomplished high school wrestler.
Transitioning back to wheelchair basketball in college, Jenifer attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he was a two-time All-American before making his Team USA debut in 2010. He was a member of the London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020 USA wheelchair basketball teams where he won bronze and a pair of gold medals. Most recently, he was a member of the U.S. team named 2022 World Champion at the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Championships in Dubai.
Jenifer, a 35-year old father of two, currently resides in Fairfax, Virginia and works for the U.S. Secret Service as a Personnel Security Specialist.
