Meet the CarMax Juniors Wheelchair Tennis Camp Coaches Gabby Hesse & Taylor Wingate

During Sportable’s third annual River City Slam tournament on June 10 and 11, CarMax will be hosting a Juniors Wheelchair Tennis Camp for youth ages 5-18 with a lower limb impairment at the Collegiate School’s Williams Bollettieri Tennis Center. The two coaches in attendance are Gabby Hesse and Taylor Wingate.

Originally from Colorado Springs, Hesse graduated in 2020 from Florida Southern College, where she studied communications and played tennis for her school. Hesse started as a Tennis for America Fellow for Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park, MD, whose main goal is to make tennis a lifetime sport for everyone. In her time as a Tennis for America Fellow and VISTA, she and another fellow, Ava Todd, adapted the JTCC Youth Impact Community Outreach Program to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, Hesse  is the Head of Wheelchair and Adaptive Tennis at JTCC.

Wingate is from Rock Hill, SC, and started playing tennis in 2014; soon after, he got involved in the USTA South Carolina Wheelchair Tennis Committee. Wingate received his PTR Adult Development certification in 2016, and has been a wheelchair tennis instructor for the ASAP tennis group ever since. He is currently a USTA Net Generation Ambassador, and USTA Men’s Open wheelchair tennis player.

The CarMax Juniors Wheelchair Tennis Camp will focus on developing individual and team skills for players from all different levels. No previous experience is required and not all players use a wheelchair for everyday mobility. Registration is available now at Sportable.org at no cost.
